Hello Peter: Your post was sketchy. If you had the names and DOB for more of the children born in Ireland, this would have helped. I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,800,000 surviving rcds for abt 70% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Cos. Donegal and Derry were recently added to the database. Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 30%. Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database. Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome). Note 4 - Microfilms of parish church rcds are kept by the National Library of Ireland. For John McGrath B 1855 (exact), somewhere in Ireland, with a father forenamed John, I found 7 rcds: 2-Meath, Co. Dublin, 2-Tipperary, and 2-Antrim. Since you have an exact DOB for John, you should be able to pick which, if any is for this ancestor. I think the rcd is in Co. Meath, Kells RC parish. A view of the right detailed rcd SHOULD show the parents' names. For Han(ora) Winn M pre 1855, somewhere in Ireland, I found NO rcds within a relevant range. The closest is in 1843 Sligo. This seems to early for your timeline. It is most likely that you have the wrong maiden name. For John McGrath M 1851 +/- 4 yrs, somewhere in Ireland, I found 73 rcds - far too many to summarize here. However 3 are in Co. Meath: 1848, and 2-1852. None of these are in Kells. The closest M rcd in Kells RC parish is in 1846. Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg. Hope this helps. Good luck. Notify Administrator about this message?
