Hi Tom, firstly, let me apologise for only just finding your response. I have so many messages regarding various past members of my family that I tend to lose track sometimes, especially when the sites fail to advise of responses.I'm really sorry about this and you've probably forgotten me by now.
My g.grandfather was Jeremiah Delaney was born abt. 1840 Ballinakill. He came to Liverpool where he married Maria Nolan b. Ireland in 1870 Liverpool. Here they settled and reared their family, their daughter Christina b. 1873 Liverpool being my grandmother (my dad's mum).
I loved my time in Ireland whilst doing my research and the parish priest of Ballinakill was lovely. He checked the parish records and was able to give me a bit of background information on my g.grandfather and his life in Ballinakill and said that the Delaney family (of the pub) were distant cousins. He couldn't help, though, with Maria Nolan as he had no information in his records on her so I still have no idea where she was from.
I do recall, though, my dad mentioning a 'mixed' marriage within the family which caused trouble as catholic married protestant.I wonder now if this could be Jeremiah Delaney (RC) and if Maria Nolan was protestant and maybe that was why they married in Liverpool. My dad also mentioned that one family member from southern Ireland married a northerner - and again, that this caused a family rift.Could this be Jeremiah and Maria, I wonder, who had 7 children all brought up in the RC religion.
I met 2 of the brothers and it was lovely to chat to them. They, in turn gave me your email address (I think it was you, Tom) and I did correspond with you a couple of times before my computer crashed and, as I hadn't backed anything up, I lost everything, including your email address.I've been searching old paperwork and leaving messages for you on various websites since then but had no luck catching up with you since.
Thanks for correcting my spelling of GRAIGNAHOWNE, it was the Priest who wrote it down for me, I've corrected that in my notes. He said the place is now known as KNOCK!
Right, I'll let you read this and hope to hear from you again soon.best regards, and once again, thank you for your response.Maureen
