Murrell-Morell Name Change
I have traced my ancestry back from Philadelphia to two counties in Ireland. I will start with me and go back to show significance of the name change.
Aaron W Morell (1992 to Present)
Wilbert J Morell III & Deborah L. Jones (1954-present)
Wilbert J Morell Jr & Marie B. Hueber (1931-present)
Wilbert J Morell Sr & Margaret Newman (1900-1981)
John Morell & Margaret Gibbons (1848-1916)
Samuel Morell & Hannah Evans Desertoghill Ireland to Philadelphia PA in 1850 (1824-1900)
John Murrell-Morell & Jane Alexander Bartreign Ireland to Desertoghill Ireland (1784-1858)
Samuel Murrell & Agnes Gilmore Bartreign Ireland (1755-1820)
William Murrell & Janice ? Bartreign Ireland (1725-1800)
The Murrell's owned a lot of Flax farms in Ireland and if you notice the time and move from Bartreign to Desertoghill, mainly to the townland of Moneydig in Northern Ireland. There may be a reason related to the economy, fama, and war that caused John Murrell and his brothers who moved North to change the spelling of the name from Murrell to Morell. There was a concentration of Morrell's that migrated to same area that came from England. Anyway that is as far back as I could go with available records without actually visiting Ireland.
Regards
Wilbert J Morell III (Murrell)
