RAINEY FAMILY
Hey, my name's Fiona and I live in Northern Ireland. I am currently searching for my relations in Canada, America and Austrailia. My great- grandfather was called Anthony Rainey (b.1898) and lived in Harryville/Straid in Ballymena, Co.Antrim.
He had four brothers, James, John, William and Alexander Rainey. He also had three sisters, Jane (Jeannie) Rose, and Elizabeth. (Lizzie) Anthony's father was also called Anthony Rainey and he (anthony snr) married Jane McCartney in 1880 at Wellington Street Presbyterian Church, Straid. Anthony Snr's mother and father were Samuel Rainey and Margaret Marrs. He had a brother called Robert Rainey, who married a Margaret Kernohan.
John Rainey was born in March 1884, he ran the barber shop in High Street, Antrim with his daughter, Molly Rainey and lived at 13 Bourlon Rd, Antrim. He was married to a woman called Mary Kernoghan (b.1886) They had a son called John Rainey, who moved to Canada in 1927- he had a daughter (Patricia Rainey) and a son. (David James Rainey)
James Rainey married an Elizabeth Irvine and had five children, Mary, Edith, Nance, James and Jean. James Rainey Jnr later moved to USA.
Elizabeth Rainey (Lizzie) married a man named Charles Millar. Alexander Rainey worked in the Salvation army. William, Alexander, Anthony, James (Jim) and John (Jack) all served in World War One.
Anthony served in world war one, as a soldier in the Northern Irish Horse Regiment and was posted to France. He was later captured and taken to Merseberg Prisoner of War Camp, Germany. He was later released in 1918. His brothers also survived the war.
