Good Morning from the USA: Joseph Holland is a mystery. In the material that was received from the Ulster Society there were three (3) Mary Ann's involved.Mary Ann Anderson, Mary Ann Moore and Mary Ann McCluskey.
Joseph Holland had Holland House built and moved therein 1888 and lived there until his death Oct 1900.He died from Soft brain disease with no mind or memory.I believe this to be Alzheimer's and there was not a name for it at the time.My husband was daignosed with Alzheimer's in 1994 and they told me it was hereidatry. The house was sold 1902 to a family named Anderson. The Holland family moved to 337 Newtownards Rd. after Holland House was sold.
Joseph Holland had a shop on Ann St. also.He also gave
the baptisimal font at St. Columba's Church Knock in memory of his daughter Clara who died at age 18.Joseph was an artist, sculptor, modler, antique dealer, and also invested in real estate.
Unfortunately all the letters from Ireland have been destroyed due to lack of care.Fred who came to the USA died 1936 and Margaret his eife died 1947.Only three letters survived and I have copies of them. They are written by Eliza Jane daughter of Joseph and gives death of the mother Mary Ann, dau Adelaide and dau MariAnn.There was not any mention of Walter who also died at 337 Newtownards Rd..Alexander Morrison must have died before 1917 ad Marianne was living with her mother and sister at time of death.
An obit on Walter says: Wed Feb 3, Belfast Newsletter.2 Feb 1917, Walterdearly beloved son of M A Holland, 337 Newtownards Rd., Belfast, Private Funeral, M.A. Holland.
His mother M. A. Holland buried him at Belfast City Cemetery Plot A-57 which is the same plot his father Joseph is buried in.
There is much more about this house and the owners.Joseph and Mary Ann married in both a Protestant and a RC ceremony in 1857 the same day.I believe one of them to be RC.Does not make any difference just would like to know.
Thanks for your interest andmaybe together we can sort some of this out.A blessed Christmas and New year.
