Fitzsimons family research
My father & I are currently researching our ancestor James Fitzsimons who was transported to Australia from Dublin on the Royal Sovereign, in 1843 at the ripe old age of 16. He was a shoemaker (indifferent) according to the court records, and was convicted of stealing a carpetbag. We would be interested to know if there is anyone else researching this family name. Also the court records indicate that several of the men who were sentenced at the same time as James, had a particular form of tattoo, 5 blue dots on the base of the left thumb, we are wondering if anyone knows the significance of these tattoos.
