Hi, I am interested in finding info the Ormsby clan, especially on my Great Granddad George Edward Ormsby who was born in Lafayette IN USA about 1851 & who married Bridget Smith/Ormsby.
Thomas & Winifred (Winney Hughes) Ormsby were the parents G. E. Ormsby & possibly came from Co.(s) Mayo, Cork, West Meath or West Mead/Maid Ireland.Thomas Ormsby was born about 1803 & settled in Elwood IN, USA around 1850s.I am in the process of researching this data now & would be interested in hearing from other Ormsby’s, distant relatives, friends or anyone else who may have information to contribute &/or share on the Ormsby family history. I live & work in Cocoa FL & I also maintain a web page & guest book at: http://www.geocities.com/charopsj/http://www.geocities.com/charopsj/
I have also attempted to transcribe the scanned Copy of my Great Aunt Loretta K. Ormsby’s family history letter given to Cousin Bill (Norman W.) Ormsby. I tried to make the transcription as exact as I possible could form the copy of the hand written letter I had that was a little better than the scanned images. See the following link for image & my best transcription of her letter: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/CharOcfl/L.letter.dochttp://mywebpage.netscape.com/CharOcfl/L.letter.doc
Some info from letter:

Born in, Tippycanue County 6 miles from Lafayette on fathers place.
Mike Hughes uncle.

I have pretty much hit a brick wall researching any Ormsby/Hughes family history from Ireland at this time & would appreciate any help I can get. I would be very interested in finding out if there is any connection to your Hughes family database since there appears to be several details with close similarities to the info in my Aunt Loretta Ormsby’s letter. She was in her 60s at the time & recording the info from her memory.
While researching the Hughes surname in Kokomo IN USA I came across this link with a list of about two-dozen Hughes’ buried at Crown Point Cemetery.
