Gatlins, Gatlans, Gatlens in Ireland
The English name Gatland came to Ireland, I suspect, with the Elizabethan Plantations after 1560.I suspect the form Gatlin and its variations originated in Ireland and came to the Virginia colony by 1637 in the person of one John Gatlin who bought land there that year. The in,en,an ending does not appear in English records until the early 1700's.
Suspect John Gatlin came out of one of the westcoastal counties of Ireland.Any help from other researchers would be much appreciated.
