Can't help you too much with the Ellsworth line, although it is a line I am interested in.What I can tell you is that Simri Phelps' first wife was Welthena Haskins (b. 10 May 1764; d: 31 March 1880). Simri was born on 16 February 1763 and d: 19 August 1841.These dates are found in the Phelps Family Bible (in my possession). After Welthena's death, he married Hannah (don't know her last name). All three of them are buried in the Old Sennett Cemetery (also called the Old North Cemetery)in Sennett, New York.It is a family marker that also bears the name of Simri's son, Almeron and his wife, Belinda. If I could figure out how to do it, I would attach a digital image of their cemetery marker. If you are interested, email me and I'll send it to you.Simri and Welthena had the following children: Drayton (b: 31 March 1792; M: Mary in 1814; d. 13 June 1869); Sally (b: 10 April 1795); Cloe (b: 14 August 1797); Welthena (b: 10 March 1799); and Almeron (b: 17 March 1800, M: (1) Belinda Sunderlin on 27 December 1821) (2) Mary A. Skadon; d: 1 January 1882).All these names and dates are in the Family Bible.(Simri~Almeron are my direct ancestors)
Simri left a will dated 23 February 18839 (probated 21 September 1841).In it, he mentions that his daughters Sally Muchler, Chloe Muchler and Welthena Elsworth are to receive some personal property. This is the only reference I had been able to find to a marriage of his daughter Welthina to someone by the name of Elsworth.Since she is not a direct ancestor, I have not concentrated too much on her.
I did find something interesting in some census reports. One of the sons of Almeron was Porter Phelps (b. 11 June 1823).In November of 1852 he married Martha Jane Ellsworth who was born in 1824, the daughter of Welthena Ellsworth. (Ellsworth now spelled with two L's) The dates associated with this Welthena are b: 1795 and d: 21 June 1882, although I don't have any documentation to support that, other than a cemetery marker. In the 1860 US Federal Census for Cayuga County, Sennett, NY, living in the Porter Phelps household is a 71-year old female by the name of "Othene" (or "Wthene") Ellsworth (the name is hard to read). It is probable that this is Martha's mother. And, I am wondering if this "Wthene" is Welthena Phelps Elsworth. This would make Porter and Martha first cousins. The name of Welthena Ellsworth (d: 21 June 1882, ag'd 93 years) appears on the Porter Phelps family cemetery monument in the Sennett Rural Cemetery.
In some documentation, Welthena is spelled Welthina, and Elsworth/Ellsworth appears in both forms.I am pretty sure we are dealing with the same person.Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the name Elsworth/Ellsworth. I would suspect, however, that if you survey all the information for the Sennett area that is available on the NYGenWeb site, you might come up with something. The cemeteries listed in this site are well documented and the name of Ellsworth/Elsworth is sure to pop up somewhere.
I would be interested in what you might find, and if I can be of help with any information on the Phelps line, let me know.
