Hi Rebecca, in this family history game we all hit a brick wall at some stage - if you're researching in Ireland you hit it about 1922.
Thats when the Easter Rising occurred and the library - where all the offical records were stored - was burnt down.
We now have to rely on churches for any very early stuff.
But I can tell you that the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) does hold catholic records to some extent and you may find them very helpful.
I live here in Belfast, spend a lot of time on genealogy, and even with all this new technology I still have to trek around old church graveyards looking for info.
People back then just didnt think that later generations would come looking for their information.
Anyway, good luck, and there are always some good hearted people who will do lookups for you in some areas.
That big fire was a tragedy, but, it wasnt the British who actually did it.
