Susan,
Don't have anything to add about your poem.
However, I am also trying to track my KELLY ancestors. I have one note from an old family Bible stating that Catherine Kelly (b 1862, wife of John Kelly Stevens of Fort Wayne, IN), was born "Lakes of Killarney."
I've found an entry in the 1880 census with a Catherine Kelly, 18 years old, in her parents' household: John Kelly, his wife Johanna, dau Mary b 1867 Ireland, son Patrick b 1869 IN, son John b 1876 IN. Someone in Fort Wayne, IN, (where they settled) was kind enough to e-mail me the info that Johanna's obit mentioned she was from County Kerry in Ireland, which is where the Lakes of Killarney are located.
I don't know about your KELLYs, but there are a number of Kellys from that area. It is hard to jump the ocean in this hobby, but perhaps if you looked for more data on your Civil War ancestor, it would lead you to something further about his point of emigration. Maybe, like many other Kellys, it will be Killarney.
