I could be wrong here, but I don't believe that the General Registrar's Office in Dublin holds church records. Most counties in Ireland have instituted Family History Centers to index all church records in their county.I believe this was sponsored by the governement and maintained by the research fees the Centers charge.
I would call or e-mail the GRO and ask first, before wasting two days there.I don't think you will find much in two days, unless you visit the FHC.I don't even know if they do walk-in research, but require an assessment form be filled out and it takes about 2 weeks just for that.Since you know he was from Irishtown, at least you could find the name of the CofI parishes there. There may only be one, which you could contact or visit while in the area.In Co. Offaly I met with the church sexton, and he looked up my ancestors baptisms, and I gave him a church donation for his time. They were all pre-1864.Or you could pay the FHC to do the research for you.If you want to e-mail me at [email protected], I will give you the link for Dublin.
Co. Cork has its own FHC.
