Great granddad Meaney
I am trying to trace my Great granddad Meaney, but know absolutely nothing about him. I am posting this message with the hope that someone who reads it may be able to help with my quest of discovering who he is.
What I do know is as follows: My Fathers name is Peter Joseph Meaney: born 1927 in the parish of Kilkeel, died 1989. He had one brother, Hugh Meaney: born around 1920, died 1986. Both are buried in Cheadle cemetery near Stockport, England.
My Dad’s Father is Hugh John Meaney: died 1954 (the year before I was born). He married Mary Catherine Fitzpaterick (who at one time worked at the Fleve Donard Hotel in Newcastle, Co. Down). Hugh John had two brothers: John or Johnny who had five daughters, Josie, Moira, Alice, Lizzie and Tessie. His second brother James or Jimmy was a bachelor. I believe both Hugh and James are buried in the churchyard of a church (now used as a youth club) on Main Street, Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland.
I understand that Lizzie married a man called Billing or Billings and moved to Australia. Josie married Malacky Duggan and they have both returned to Ireland after living in England.
Finally, I also know that my father once lived with his family in Maghera Co. Down.
Can anyone help me, or make useful suggestions?
Thanks in anticipation,
Pete.
