The only coal mine I am aware of in Ireland is Arigna, but am doubtful if it opperated in 1796. Coal was more probably imported at that time, would Samuel Barr perhaps have been employed by a coal merchant, whether selling or perhaps unloading at the docks, in which case Dublin, Waterford or possibly Cork would be his location. Coal would have come from Europe/England, so likelyhood is landing on East Coast.
