To M. Lane,
The Ronayne form of the surname occurs most frequently in East Cork and Waterford (over 75% of the time). The Ronan form occurs most frequently in West Cork and the other counties surround Cork and Waterford, including Co. Galway, where the Parish of Dunmore is located. In Griffith's there are no listing for a Patrick or Martin Ronayne in Co. Galway; however, there are Patrick and Martin Ronan's in Galway and the Parish of Dunmore. Also, there are listings for Thaddeus Brennan in Co. Galway, Parish of Dunmore. I have attached all the entries for these names from Co. Galway. Once you learned how to use it (and you do have to learn), the Griffith's CD is one of the most valuable FTM has on sale. The two tricks to using this CD are: (1) understanding what an Irish Townland is and (2) exporting the data from the CD into and Excel spread sheet for analysis. I would strongly recommend that anyone doing Irish genealogical research, get a copy of this CD from FTM.
