Wexford Dennisons
Dennison is a very rare name in Co.Wexford and I have some details of my Wexford Dennisons from 1845 onwards but have no idea where they came from.
Garret Dennison married Mary Stafford 1st July 1845 in St.Martin's Church (RC) Piercestown, Co.Wexford. Witnesses, Patrick Dennison and Nicholas Stafford.
First I have to explain that the spelling of Crossscales is correct.....it's taken from several official documents, church records, actual road signs and a 'Discovery Series' Ordnance Survey map.
Mary Anne Dennison, baptised (RC) 20th Jan.1851 Tomhaggard, Kilmore Parish, Co.Wexford.
Father - James Dennison (of Crossscales, Co.Wexford)
Mother - Mary (Maria) McCabe.
James is the only Dennison to appear in Griffith's Valuation 1853 for Co.Wexford and none appear in the Tithe Applotment books c.1824 - 1834 for Wexford to my knowledge.
Mary Anne married John Doyle 14th May 1873, at Tomhaggard. She is from Crossscales as is witness, Patrick Dennison.
Patrick Dennison of Crossscales married Margaret Casey of Tenacre, Co.Wexford on 14th May 1873 at Tomhaggard. Margaret was baptised at Tomhaggard on 28th Aug.1853, parents Michael Casey and Anne Jeffares (married 1849, Tomhaggard).
Patrick and Margaret's children were:-
James baptised 6th Oct. 1873 Tomhaggard.
John baptised 27th Aug.1878 Tomhaggard.
Mary baptised 9th May 1880 Tomhaggard, married Patrick Hayes, died 7th Jan.1962 and is buried in Cleriestown, Co.Wexford.
Nicholas born about 1882, married Mary Murphy, died 14th May 1944 and is buried in Cleriestown, Co.Wexford.
Mary was 8 years old when her father left, with John, for America about 1888. Patrick died 9 days after his arrival but I don't know where. Nor do I know who looked after the 10 year old John Dennison in America. Family lore states he eventually became a barrister-at-law in San Francisco. Was Patrick quite a bit older than his wife or were there two? What was the relationship between Patrick, James senior and Garret? If any of this stirs any memories in anyones genealogy PLEASE e-mail me.
Thankyou,
Mary Newsome
