Hanahue/Hanaghue, Killala Mayo > MA & NY
I'm looking for any information on the Hanahue or Hanaghue sisters from the Seeyhan or Deeyhan district of Killala in County Mayo, who emigrated to the US in the early1900's.
They were the daughters off Patrick Hanahue and his wife, Winny Ruddy.Family legend says that there were seven sisters and that they worked as domestics to bring each other over from Ireland.
My great grandmother was Ellen Hanaghue Coyne, who died giving birth to my grandmother Mary Ellen Coyne Gorman in 1913 in Sharon, Massachusetts.Another sister, Margaret, married a man named Smith and also lived in Sharon.
I believe that there was a brother Michael, but have no information about him other than his birth.I think that there were also three sisters, Kathryn/Katie, Mary, and Anna/Annie who lived in Brushton, NY.
I would love to find out who the other two sisters were (assuming that the family legend is correct) and either get in touch with their descendants or with someone who knows about Patrick and Winnie and their parents.
It has also been suggested that the family name may be a variant of Hanahoe, although Margaret apparently pronounced it Hanahoo or Han-a-hyoo.Thename is spelled Hanahue on Margaret's birth certificate, but Hanaghue on Ellen's death certificate. It's such an uncommon name that anyone who has it is a potential relation!
Thanks!
Mary Gorman
