Searching for ancestors/info. on Thomas P. Farrell, b. March, 1864 in West Virginia of
parents who were born in Ireland. My info. comes from 1900 and 1910 census records
from Pittsburgh/Allegheny Co., PA. In 1900, our Thomas was working as a puddler
and lived on Woods Run Ave., Pgh. In 1910, he was a policeman in Pgh and still lived
at the same address. First wife unknown. Three sons born of that marriage--James b.
1884 in PA; John b. 1885 in PA; Robert b. 1893 in PA. In 1905, Thomas m. second
wife Lucy Shinn who was b. about 1880 in Ohio of parents who were also born in
Ohio. Thomas and Lucy had three children: Lucy born? and who died 6/29/1912 as a
result of injuries received in the house fire that also killed her brother, Joseph Donald b.
Nov. 1909 in PA and d. June 12, 1912; another child--Francis Basil B. 1907, m. Edna
Jordan and had one son (my husband) Thomas P. born 1937. Francis died of TB May
7, 1940.
The Thomas who was born in W. Va. died in Pgh Mar. 2, 1918. The obituary included
directions for the Wheeling, W. Va. paper to copy.
We want to know where our Thomas was born? It appears to be W. VA., but where
in W. VA? We also want to go back at least one more generation and get info. on who
was his father/parents and where they came from in Ireland. If we had names and
birthplaces then we could continue our search in Ireland.
Where would you suggest we search in W. Virginia? Is there a central office of vital
statistics, perhaps in the capital? Do we need to search locally in both Wheeling and
Weirton?
