Hello, Elizabeth
Heritage World did quite a bit of record searching in their inital assessment. I had given them my ggg-grandparents' names (Hugh Brattin/Mary Jane Wilson), along with the name, birthdate, and location of baptism (Kilskeery Parish) of their son William (that was the only definite record I had). They searched Church of Ireland and First Presbyterian baptismal records for a period covering 18 years in Kilskeery Parish and in two adjoining parishes, along with marriage records for the same parishes. No relevant marriage records were found, but they did locate the baptismal record for William as well as one for a sister whom we hadn't known about, who was born in a different town. The record also listed Hugh Brattin's occupation as a farmer, another fact we hadn't known. In addition, they searched the Tithe Applotment records to see which parishes Brattins and Wilsons were actually in and came up with three in which both families lived. So that was what was included in the intitial search. I am now having them search further for marriage records in the parishes they consider to be the best bet.
I would say that since you already have quite specific information on your ancestors, it might be better (and cheaper) to order copies of the records from their various sources directly. I was pretty fuzzy on most details, and I do think it's best for me to go through an agency which has so many resources. I don't know whether Heritage World will provide me with the actual records, I will have to be sure to ask them.
It's always difficult to know whether your're really getting your money's worth from genealogy researchers. I have been encouraged by their prompt and quite specific replies so far.I should know more in the next few weeks after they have completed this next phase of the search, and I will definitely let you know what they come up with.
Hope this helps a little,
Connie
