Hi Mary,
My ggparents emigrated from Belmullet, Co Mayo in 1873 as well. They were Hannah Deane & Michael Carey. They joined many others from that area of Ireland who already lived in Lost Creek, West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill Co, PA.If you do a search at www.familysearch.com, some of the results should be Gaughans living in Lost Creek 1880.I know for a fact that many of the Irish who initially lived in Lost Creek, eventually moved on to Wilkes Barre/Scranton area, Delaware Co(Philly area), Ohio & Wisconsin. When the 1880 census was transcribed, many surnames were misspelled.I found my ggf family name spelled Corey.Gaughan spelling is butchered as well. Therefore, it's necessary to try various misspellings of the name to finally pull up the famlies. There were many Gaughans in Lost Creek, West Mahanoy Twp, and by 1910 many family members had moved a few miles away to Girardville, PA as well.
Good luck with your search,
Ann
