Hi Dave
We probably don't have a connection but then you never know.My Great Grandfather was James Lang.Lang is the way I knew it and didn't think otherwise.Come to find out from his Naturalization Papers and several Baptism Records the name was spelled Layng.
This is what I have for info.James Layng and his brother Andrew Layng came into New York On October 10, 1871.
Both of them became Naturalized Citizens in the US Circuit Court of Portland, Maine, Jame in October 1880 and Andrew in October 1882.According to their Natualization Records James was born in County Mayo in 1842 and Andrew was born in County Mayo in 1846.On several of the Baptism Records in Portland, Maine the name Lang is spelled Layng for the father James and for the Sponsor Andrew.
Looking at my 1848-1864 Griffiths Valuation CD I found that there were not many Layng's in County Mayo and the ones that were there appeared to be from the same area. The
name Lang appeared more in County Sligo.
Do you have any James or Andrew's in your listing of Layng family names?
Fran
