Hi Tom,
Great to hear from you! I've not come across this spelling -- KELKAM -- of my family name KILKER before. This is very clearly a mistake of transcription from the schedule to the index and not one of bad diction by the enumeratee or of poor hearing by the enumerator.
I must have found this part of my family at this yearthrough another indexing service as the name I have now in my data base is John 'Kelkur' with all the other data basically the same. Another indexer must have seen the very same schedule page and interpretated the elegant scrolls differently. The first child (Line 11 on the schedule page) based on the age, must be John while his two-year older brother Anthony is not listed, presumably enumerated elsewhere (and yet to be found).
I've got several several sightings of my KILKERs in the Keokuk location for this period. Ireally feel that I now have to find a local researcher to pokearound some more.
I really appreciate your finding the "Kelkams" for me.
