Edward McNiff b. 18 July 1846-1851 Ireland married Rose Hickman 1872 Montreal under the surname Magan. He could not sign and it’s a French-speaking community. Family went by Macken and finally Mack. 13 baptisms at St. Patrick’s – surnames all spelled differently. My grandfather’s was Henry McEniff. Emigration date given on late 19th century census of Montreal is 1861. Edward would have been 9-10 years old. He must of come here with someone, perhaps a relative. A witness name given on a couple of Montreal documents is William Hannon.
Have been searching for 25 years for Edward’s parentage, relatives and birthplace.
Does anyone have McNiff’s from Longford who can verify any of this information or add to it? Wendy
