Interesting possibility, George! By coincidence I too have the tree of Hugh Edwards, because I researched and wrote a short biography of David Cairns, Edwards' son in law [for the DIctionary of Irish Biography]. I hadn't noticed the Pattersons. I suppose it is possible that the Patterson family I am interested in were descendants of your Rev. Patterson; to judge by the dates, mine would have had to be a son's family I think. As far as I know, though, my family were farming, and that's not the most likely way of life for a minister's family. In general, ministers' sons would have been educated for a profession. But certainly it's a possibliity, and thank you for drawing it to my attention
