I searched the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds B4 1840 are sparse, B4 1800 rare.
For Thomas McMahon B 1831 +/- 1 yr in Limerick with a father named James, I found 1 B rcd in 1830. This MAY be your ancestor.
For James McMahon M 1825 +/- 4 yrs in Galway, I found 0 M rcds.
For Mary Griffith M 1825 +/- 4 yrs in Galway, I found 1 M rcds. Because there is no corresponding M rcd for James, this is a NO MATCH.
Will leave it to you to experiment with other date ranges in other counties. You can also try to find his parents B rcds, but your chances of success are slim.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to the database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Your info was very sketchy. Hope this helps.
