Handwritten book 1800's re: Meagher/Maher
This is an update of posting no. 284 January 9, 2000 on the Maher Family Genealogy Forum entitled: "Handwritten book 1800's re: Meagher/Maher". A reference to that posting was posted on the same day on the Meagher family forum. It was posting no. 83. There were several responses to those postings.
I’ve reposted this to add some information and to put the information in the order it appears in the book.
T. Maher is stamped in gold print on the front of this leather-bound book.
Inside the front cover of the book is written John V. Maher

An old black and white photo of a man in a suit and hat, standing in front of a home, is tucked in the book. (No name. The photo was probably taken in the 1930's or 1940's)
The book was among several books that came from an estate in Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. It is primarily a handwritten book of Catholic religious thoughts, notes, and Catholic doctrine, but it includes a few pages of genealogical information including the following:
“John V. Maher and Miss Mary Ormond married January 14th, 1873.
"Our son, Richard was born at Brewsters York, Sept 27, 1874. Baptized on the 18th day of Oct. 1874 during the Council of the Vatican which was being held to define infallibility of Peter’s succession.”
"Michael Meagher arrived in New York Aug 3, 1848 bringing with him his oldest son John. The remainder of the family came over in the later part of 1851, sometime in Nov of that year and settled at South Dover in Dutchess Co.”
