The Belsons were recorded in 1827 (Tithe Applotment)kilferagh Co. Clare. Names John and James Belson.
Also in the 1855 Griffiths Valuation. The names recorded were Bridget, George, John and Michael.
Also in the Hogan’s Directory for Kilkee 1842 names recorded Michael and John Belson.
Also Slater’s Directory 1847. Michael Belson.
There was a John Belson teacher Dough Kilkee in 1824.
Also a Reference to a catholic priest called Belson in County Clare 1700.
The origin of this name is English however it has a long history in Clare up to 1900 when it became extinct.
Some Belsons emigrated to Argentina.
My wife's great great Grandmother was a Margaret Belson She died Kilkee Co. Clare ireland 1875. Her Husband was Thomas Fitzgerald.
the 1901/1911 Census show a handful of belsons in Ireland and most of them were from England.
The Irish Belsons had died out or emigrated by that time.
