Hi Mary, I just read the information concerning the name of Holahan. My husband's maternal grandmother was Susan Holahan. She was born (somewhere) in Ireland. We have very little information about her other than what we read in the family Bible. Her parents were Patrick Holahan and Susan Gardiner and they were married in Dublin, Ireland. Daughter Susan was born in 1880 and eventually came to America. The date is???? She married James Menzies Merchant Sept 11, 1897 somewhere in NY or NJ or PA. They had 4 children, James jr., Sarah, Caroline(husband's mother) and John Patrick. They were placed into a children's home sometime in the early 1900's somewhere in NY. James sr., was from a shipping family in New Jersey, and was the "black sheep" of his family. We just don't have any other information and am wondering if our Holahan is a connection to your Holahan.
