Hi Mary,

It was great to hear from you. Thank you for so much information about Leitrim. I have such a long way to go with this research, and its so hard with so little to go on.

The church information came from some aunts and uncles who had been to Balliamore which was from what they understood the birthplace of Bridget Holahan (spelling may be off)'s taken from my paternal grandmother's birth certificate. It says her mother Bridget Holahan Gaffney was 30 in 1877. That would place her birth around 1847. The 1900 census says Bridget was born in June of 1852. There is a slight discrepancy but I can work around that one. According to the 1900 census Bridget came to NY in 1870. That would mean in her early 20's?? Family stories say she left home with her sisters? I have heard the names of (maybe some) of her sisters were Betsy and Mary. I know Bridget must have married in NYC since that is where my grandmother was born. In the 1900 census it says Bridget was married for 25 years. That would place her marriage somwhere around 1875. Bridget does show up on the 1880 census living in Jersey City, NJ (where all of my father's family really came from)with her husband Patrick Gaffney and her two daughters; Mary who was 5 years old and my grandmother Ellen who was 2 at the time of the 1880 census. My grandmother Ellen was born in 1877. Also on the 1880 census living with my grandmother's family was a Rose Hollahan, age 22 who was listed as a sister in law. So...Bridget must have had several sisters??? I think I heard a story a long time back...that Bridget's father's name was Patrick.
I have had a hard time though...finding any death records on Bridget or her husband Patrick Gaffney though all of my father's buried in Jersey City and they also loved there.

I hope this hasn't confused you...ask whatever you like...I need the help!

Thank you again.
