Hi Kathleen
Somehow it seems I never got back to you about this. It was a trying time in that I had a mild stroke and then my mother died!

Anyway, as to your question - no the records on microfilm have to be accessed at an LDS (Mormon) library. There are lots of these around the world and yopu can look for the nearest one at www.familysearch.org.

On that website tou can access some indexes which have been put on line. 1881 census USA UK and Canada and the IGI. But the IGI whilst very useful is bitty. It only contains what people have input inb the past and there are lots of gaps. That said it is still a very useful resource.

As to the microfilms, you order them through the LDS library for a small charge and then go to the library to view them. Be prepared for faint ink, terrible writing, bad spelling and LAtin! As well as records scrawled into whiever corner they could fit in.

Sorry again for the delay

Jim
