Hello, I'm trying to knock down my "brick wall", too. This particular wall has resisted my efforts for about 30 years!!!
I'm playing a very long shot here, so just bear with me. My ggfather was James Edward Curliss, b., so the story goes, in Chicago IL 1851-54 (depending on which family member one is talking with). That, Kathleen, is all we can say we know about him until his marriage in about 1880 to Nancy Jane Garner in AR. I have found him in Yell Co. AR tax records in 1893. We know he died in 1899 in Wilburton OK.
Of course, the name could have been any varient of Curliss...Curless, Curlis, Corlies, Curley, etc.
Now, to get to your involvement. I found an Edward Corliss, about the right age in South Chicago IL in the 1860 census. He was in the household of Mary (26 yrs old) and Patrick Haley (30 yrs old). They had no children with the last name of Haley. They were born in Ireland. Your queries mention a Patrick Haley, b. 1829. Since you didn't mention in your queries here on GenForum a location, I hoped it may be the Chicago area. Do you have this guy in your records?
