I am doing reseach for the Ternan family of Bedford, Nova Scotia (former owners of Fort Sackville from 1870's to 1940's in NS, Canada). I was given information about a Dr. John Ternan, Royal Navy Fleet Surgeon (1850's - 60's). There is quite a bit of info on John once he moved to NS, Canada, and married, had a family etc. But I am interested in filling in blanks on his family BEFORE him. He had some prominent/famous relatives: (1) An uncle, Terence Brady Ternan was a Lieutenant in the 2nd West Indian Regiment, and was (supposedly) murdered in 1802 at the age of 20. (2) A first cousin of John's was Ellen (Nelly) Lawless Ternan, who an actress in England and was a longtime mistress of Charles Dickens. Any info on this branch of the Ternan family would be greatly appreciated. I in turn could try and fill in some blanks on more current family history. John's g-g-g-grandfather was (I'm told) from Bumblin, formerly of Strokestown, County Roscommon. Thanks in advance, Christie Notify Administrator about this message?
