Sweeneys of Leitrim or Ballinamore??

Hello,
I've narrowed down my great grandfather to one of two people on the Leitrim census. One was from Leitrim and one from Ballinamore.
Family lore states that he was 'from the banks of the River Shannon near Leatrim'
Does anyone know how close Ballinamore is from Leatrim? And would this be considered 'on the banks of the River Shannon'

And if once you were in America, would you say you were from Leatrim because Ballinamore is so small no one would recognize it.?
