Hi Carol,
My Dad was from Ballinamore, Co Leitrim and his great grandmother was Jane King from Swadlinbar, just a few miles up the road in Cavan. The connection with your enquiry would be Dad's accent, or pronunciation of the name King, would sound out as Cain/Kain. I beleive when Irish people entered the US / England their name was often mis spelt because of pronuciation.
