Thank you Ralph for this information. The second date would seem correct as their first was born in 1835. Unless John had had a previous marriage but then I think that one would have been listed as well.
A family member did get a chance to see the records and there were no parents names listed for John or Anne. According to my great grandfather John originally lived in Cork. I'm guessing like all hungry people he might have gravitated to Mountmellick for work. Anne may have followed. Both names Whelan and Farmer are fairly common in the Cork/Waterford areas.
