If you'd like, I can look for the marriage index of James Ling, if he married in the UK, and the birth record indexes for any children he and his wife had.
I would need the name of his wife, approximate year of marriage, and county or district of marriage.
For the birth indexes of the children I would also need the name of each child you are aware of, and the years and places of birth.
Concerning a James Ling in England, I found an 1881 census for the family of James Ling residing in Southwark St. Saviour, Surrey. The census shows that James was born in Ireland in 1837. His wife is listed as Anna.
I'm not sure if this census pertains to your James Ling, but I've copied the census entry below, which comes from the Latter Day Saints website:
