Please help a German/Slovak researcher help his Irish aunt find out more about her ancestors. I'm just beginning to help my aunt research her ancestors in Ireland. Fortunately the parish records of St. John Gualbert's Catholic church in Johnstown, Pennsylvania are very detailed and record the marriage of her great-grandparents Catherine Fitzpatrick of Fermoy, County Cork and William Fitzpatrick of Upperwoods, County Queen, on January 2, 1855. I was able to ascertain that County Queen was a different name for County Laois but I have been unable to locate a town or region named Upperwoods on any of the maps to which I have access. Can anyone help me locate it? I haven't had the opportunity to search for William Fitzpatrick's entry on the passenger arrival lists at the National Archives in Washington, but is there an indexed list of petitions to leave Ireland where we may be able to find more about William and his bride, Catherine? Any help either with geography or records would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Martin K. Lison
