Stanford in Laois

According to my ancestor's army record, he was born in Co. Laois. His name was Edward James Stanford b.1834. His father was probably James, but may have been Peter. He had a brother Peter and one sister. Their mother was Susan Mason..I'm assuming also of Laois. Edward J. came to the US sometime between 1851 and 1860. In 1860 he was mining in Lewisburg, WV (Virgina at the time)where he enlisted in the Union Army. Family notes say that he was in Eaton, OH at one time. After the war, c. 1864 he settled in New Haven, CT. There was a James Stanford, grocer living there in the 1850's. Edward was a grocer when he returned from war.

Does anyone have any Stanford's in Laois??
