Yes, I assume that the McKenneys were originally from Scotland. I have no idea how long they might have lived in Ireland (if they did at all) whether it was for one generation or several.

I have no real evidence that the family was from Kilkenny. I have wondered if someone in the family just 'thought' that the family was from there since there is a common root in both McKenney and Kilkenny! It could be that my family never set foot in Ireland and that they left for America from Scotland.

I'm just checking out old family ideas. Any birth or marriage records would have to be before or about 1750 and I don't think those exist.
