All I know of my 2nd gtgrparents is that William O'Neil and Mary Byrnes came from "county Dare" which I assume is Kildare. And they must have sailed for Canada in 1853-4 because their son Hugh was born shortly after their arrival in Hamilton, Ontario. Hugh was born Jan 31, 1854, so it is likely they arrived in Hamilton in the fall of 1853.
William died in Colchester, Vermont on 12 April 1906 age about 86, a farmer born Ireland. His wife, Mary Byrnes, may have been the daughter of a Thomas Byrnes because she had a brother named Thomas Byrnes. She may have had brothers named Patrick and James also as those names are on small stones in the family plot at St. Ann's cemetery in Milton, VT. Thomas Byrnes Jr., born about 1824 in Ireland married a Mary and had children named Alice, Owen, Patrick, and Thomas. A Thomas Burns, born about 1799 in Ireland, lived at Colchester, VT and died in 1870. Alice, his wife was born in 1805 Ireland. A Catherine Burns and Rose Burns, apparently unmarried ladies, lived next door to them, so perhaps they were Mary's sisters, born in 1805 and 1807. The name may have been Byrne rather than Byrnes or Burns.
