I recently found my gg Grandfather's obituary, which lists his birthplace in Co. Kerry. I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has any connections... I would love to locate his birthplace and family info in Co. Kerry. Michael Joseph O'Grady was born September 29, 1849. His parents were Patrick and Elizabeth, and his siblings were: Mary Elizabeth (m. Cudahy resided Chicago) Thomas Martin John Patrick In the 1850s his family moved to Durham Co. England. There, he married Margaret McClusky (b. Ireland, father: Patrick) in 1867. In 1868, daughter Maria (Mary) Ann was born. One year later Michael and Margaret emigrated to the US, settling in PA where Michael was a miner. They had 16 children; known children incluce: John, Margaret, Mary, James, Ella, Michael, Elizabeth, Veronica, Agnes, Theresa, Gertrude, Rebecca, and Bertha. Here is a copy of the obit (it states Michael and Margaret were married in Ireland, but this is incorrect, and his naturalization papers show he immigrated in 1869): From September 26, 1924 McDonald Register: Michael Joseph O'GRADY, aged 74 years, eleven months, and twenty-two days, died at his home in Laurel hill at 11:45 Saturday evening, September 20,1924 after a short illness of bronchial pneumonia. Mr. O'GRADY was born on September 29, 1849, in Kerry, Ireland. He was united in marriage to Miss Margaret MCCLUSKY in Ireland. They came to the United States in 1864 and settled in Walkers Mills, and later moved to McDonald and here they spent the greater part of their lives. Sixteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. O'GRADY, of whom eight are living: Miss Gertrude O'GRADY at home, Mary, the wife of William ANDREWS of McDonald, Mrs. Ellen DAUGHERTY of Carnegie, Margaret, the wife of Stewart BOWELL of Clifton, N. J., Elizabeth, the wife of S. M. RODGERS of Sheraden; Theressa, the wife of Robert PURDY of McDonald; Agnes the wife of James B. MURRAY of Altoona; Rebecca, the wife of Edward SMITH of McDonald. One sister also survives, Mrs. Elizabeth CUDAHY of Chicago. He is also survived by twenty-six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. O'GRADY was retired from active work. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Catholic Men's Beneficial association, German Beneficial union and the Heptosophs. Funeral services were held with requiem high mass sung by the Rev. Fr. Joseph A. BURGOON, in St. Alphonsus' church at nine o'clock Wednesday morning. Interment was in St. Patrick's cemetery, Noblestown. Notify Administrator about this message?
