Ralph & Christopher,

Thanks for your responses. I am suspicious that the Macomber note of having been in Ireland, may very well have been as visitors or temporary investors at the time. I seem to recall there were some English that had land or other holdings in Ireland in the 1500's. We do know that our Macomber ancestors lived in the Dorset area of England in the late 1500's and came to America in the 1630's. And yes, there is a very prevalent belief that the family is of original Scotish ancestry. I have found notations in some of the family histories, as late as the mid 1800's, that the family was Scot. We have been unable, so far, to find the name in Scotland.
