Hugh KEENAN, Margaret CAMMOCK 1839-
I am looking for information about the relatives of Hugh and Margaret (CAMMOCK) KEENAN, who emigrated to the U.S. from Bangor Parish, County Down, Ireland about 1883. While crossing the Atlantic, the name became KENAN.
Hugh KEENAN (1839-1897) was earlier married to Isabella THOMPSON (abt1837-1873), who bore eight children; Margaret CAMMOCK (1840-1924) was earlier married to James Campbell BOYD (abt1842-1871), which union produced two children; and the 1875 marriage of Hugh and Margaret produced four more.
Six of the fourteen children made the trip to the US: Lydia BOYD (hers) (19 Jul 1868-Jun 1940); Joseph Thompson KEENAN (his); and Thomas KENAN, Alexander S. KENAN, Annabel KENAN, and Margaret KENAN (theirs). All settled in Syracuse, New York.
Lydia BOYD married CLEMENTS; Thomas KENAN married Anna DUFF; Alexander S. KENAN married Edith Lyon RISEDORF; Annabel KENAN married Edwin A. OLLEY; and Margaret KENAN married William P. SABURN.
Not making the trip to the U.S. were the following children of Hugh KEENAN and Isabella THOMPSON: Thomas KEENAN (26 Jul 1859-31 Mar 1864); Thomas KEENAN (13 Apr 1864-5 Apr 1865); Susanna KEENAN (10 Feb 1866-21 Nov 1869); and Hugh KEENAN (19 Apr 1868-13 Nov 1869), who all died young, and Anne KEENAN (18 Sep 1860-); Mary Jane KEENAN (20 Mar 1862-); and Hugh KEENAN (17 Jun 1871-), who all remained in County Down.
Elizabeth BOYD (19 Jul 1868-Jun 1940), daughter of James Campbell BOYD and Margaret CAMMOCK, married Alexander BARR (1 Jun 1866-25 Jun 1945), and they also emigrated to Syracuse, perhaps with the others. They had at least two children, one named Alexander BARR.
I believe Joseph KEENAN settled in New Jersey, dying in Secaucus, NJ in 1912.Joseph was buried in Syracuse with other members of the family.
If anyone can add to the picture on either side of the Atlantic, it would be appreciated.
