In Reply to: William Rea b. 1715 Ballynahinch, Dromore Parish ? by Shirley of 1184

DNA testing has ruled out that line, about two years ago, Shirley. I was originally told by cousins in Minnesota that we were descended from William Rea of Drumskee, but, when a known descendant of William's first son Samuel joined my Rea Surname DNA Project in 2006, his DNA - as well as six others in the project who matched him - proved there is no connection to my line at all. Same for Matthew Rea of Drumbo, whom I had once believed to be my g-g-g-g-grandfather Matthew Sutherland Rea, who emmigrated to Pennsylvania in 1774 from Newry. A known descendant of Matthew Rea of Drumbo joined the project and his DNA perfectly matches the group of members descended from William Rea of Drumskee, confirming that (1) Matthew Rea of Drumbo is of the same line as William Rea of Drumskee and (2) that Matthew Rea of Drumbo and Matthew Sutherland Rea are NOT the same man.

Thanks for the effort, though! I appreciate it. :)

Gary Rea
