Boyles of Stranorlar (Owen, Patrick, ??) to NYC abt 1852

Owen Boyle, who emigrated to NYC around 1852, came from Stranorlar parish in County Donegal. That was smack in the middle of the potato-famine period but before civic records were kept starting in 1864.

So, no civic records, and probably no church records either. (They were Northern Irish Catholics.) He was born around 1835 apparently in or near Stranorlar. (How is that pronounced?!)

In NYC he was a hackman (carriage driver). He married Ann Donnelly abt 1859, and they had six children between 1860 and 1869 (Daniel, William Francis, Mary, Anna Louise, Kate & John). Owen died in March 1872, supposedly from pneumonia following rescuing someone from the Hudson (West?) River.

He may have come with his family. I don't know. There was a Patrick Boyle, policeman, born abt 1840 in Ireland, who was living with Owen and Ann in 1870. At the time of his death in 1872 Owen and his family had been living at 442 Greenwich Street in Manhattan.
