Hi, i have read your message posted regarding Powells of co clare.I am decended from a Co Clare Powell family line.I'm certain that my family line originated in and around Ennis, Co Clare, but had lands and also lived in the vicinity of Kilinaboy, Corrofin. There has however been a mention at some point, that it is possible that my earliest Clare ancestors hailed from Doora Parish in Co Clare, and the name given in this regard is a Thomas Powell (1640s).
The earliest recorded in my own line is Edmond Powell (1748 to 1803)..his son Patrick..then Thomas, then John 1855-1901(left Clare, moved to Birr Co Offaly to help set up regional newspaper)......etc.
There seems to be a few Powell family lines in Clare, even though the name is definitely not indigenous to the area.Would love to hear more!..R. Powell.
