John Downes in County Clare in the early 1800's

My gtgtgrandfather, John Downes/Downs was born in Ireland and I presume from County Clare. My gtgrandfather, Patrick Downs/Downes was born in County Clare, Ireland, March 2, 1827. I do not know who the mother was. Can anyone help me establish fact? Thank you in advance. Catherine was Patrick's wife, she, also was from County Clare. Doris
