BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH-Thomas O'Hollan was born 1 May 1822 in County Clare, Ireland.He arrived in America at the Port of New Orleans at just 15 years old.He migrated to Hawesville, Hancock, Ky. and became a U.S. citizen on 1 March 1846.
He met and married Mary McCrann in Hawesville in 1853 where he was employed as a coal miner.To this union fifteen children were born.They are Mrs. Mary Ann Smith(1854-1929), Ellen Holland, Katie Holland, James B. Holland(1859-1936), Margaret Holland(1859-1942), Sarah C. Holland(1861-1939), Thomas Holland, Mrs. Joseph Ames, Mrs. John H. Williams, Della Holland(1867-1889), John(Peggy)Holland(1868-1918), William Holland, Mrs. Adelia Toohey(1872-1923), Christopher R. Holland(1876-1917), Michael J. Holland(1881-1948), and Mrs. Cora Kilfoil(1891-1963).
In 1875 Thomas and his large family moved from Hawesville, Ky. to Washington, In. They resided at 367 South Meridian St. for the next twenty four years where on 23 February 1899 Thomas died at 2:45 a.m. at his home at the age of 77 years old dying of catarrhal pneumonia.He was a lifelong democrat and a devote member of the Catholic church.Thomas, along with his wife and most of their children are buried at St. John's Cemetery in Washington, In.
