I received a stack of letters from my grandmother and one was dated 6 Nov 1881 from a Margaret Hogg. The letter was addressed from Pollamalady, Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland. I am attempting to connect my Hogue/Hogge/Hogg line back to Ireland.
In the letter Ms. Hogg states she is a cousin of my US ancestors and names the following family members in Ireland:
Father - William Hogg
Sister - Marion Hogg
Brother - Charles Hogg
Brother - John Hogg
My ancestor is a Robert Hogge who was born abt 1787 in Ireland and immigrated before 1809. His first son Robert was born 1809 in New Hampshire.
The History of Newport, New Hampshire: From 1766 to 1878
By Edmund Wheeler
Robert Hogge was a native of Ireland. He operated here in the early part of this century; was a shop-keeper and fancy goods peddler, having an establishment on the site now occupied by the Phenix hotel. He had three children, Robert, William, and Nancy. Robert graduated at Dartmouth college in 1828; was a teacher and a man of talent.
If anyone can help me track down this Hogg family in County Cavan it would be greatly appreciated.
