Hello,

My ancestor Robert Bell (b. Strabane, Tyrone, March 4, 1797), his wife Catharine Wallace and their first three children (William, Robert and John) left Ireland for New York (State? City?) in abt 1823.

Family lore is that Robert was part of a (family?)linen business in Strabane and that in New York he worked in a similar field (cotton?) until that sector came to grief.

Nine years later (1832) they moved to Kemptville, Ontario where they took up farming.

You can see much of the family in Kemptville (Greville Co., Oxford-on-the-Rideau Twns)in the 1841,'48 and particularly the'51 censusus, on-line.

One of Robert's sons was James, born in the USA and, we assume, New York. However, have not been able to trace that birth.

Peter (Canada)
